About Vie Ailleurs

Vie Ailleurs is a free calculator that answers a simple question: what would your life, exactly as it is today, cost in another city in the world?

Why this site exists

Most comparison tools set two averages side by side. But your budget is not an average: a small town is not Paris. Vie Ailleurs starts from your city and your real spending, then moves it to the destination city line by line: rent, groceries, transport, healthcare, school, paperwork.

What you will find

A calculator with no sign-up, in French and English, covering 22 countries, with a page for every country and main city (85 cities) and practical guides. Your answers stay in your browser.

Where the figures come from

Each country’s official statistics (Insee, ONS, Census and BLS, Destatis, Statbel, Eurostat, national institutes), the World Bank’s price differences, and central banks’ exchange rates.

When a country publishes no rents, we use figures published by professionals (barometers, dated reports) and we say so. We do not scrape listing websites.

No figure is made up: each one is shown with its source and date.

What the site is not

These are indicative estimates, not financial, tax or legal advice. Incomes are compared net, without modelling the destination country’s tax. Check anything important with the relevant organisations before deciding.

Independence and funding

The site is free, with no account, no advertising and no cookies. One day it may recommend services useful for a move (removals, money transfers, health insurance…) through partner links, always labelled as such. Those links never change the figures. Today, there are none.

Who publishes the site

Vie Ailleurs is published by Killian Mimouni, a sole trader in Déols (Indre), France. Full details are in the legal notice.
